Lux is Ed Kliman and Jonah Kane-West. Residents of Austin, Texas, they were both working as hired guns in a cover band in Austin, got to talking and discovered they both shared a love of New Orleans music and boogie-woogie piano. Further discussion (and a beverage or two) revealed that each had also lived in New Orleans. After meeting separately to play a few Mardi Gras standards for fun, the project quickly took on the feel of something more substantial.

Basing their sound on the music of artists like Big Joe Turner, Dr. John, Professor Longhair and the group's namesake Meade "Lux" Lewis, they quickly began writing their own songs in this style. After their first public performance as Lux, the pair knew they were on to something special.

Jonah, a recent University of Texas graduate who attended school on a tennis scholarship, developed his distinctive piano style playing gospel music in his native Virginia. While attending Tulane University in New Orleans, he immersed himself in the piano styles of 'Fess, James Booker and other iconic piano players from the Crescent City's long musical tradition.

Ed's long career in the music business includes work on audiobooks, national radio commercials, recording sessions and playing "every wide spot in the road between Bemidji and Baton Rouge" in the US as a road musician. An award-winning composer and musical director for professional Shakespearean theatre companies in the US and Europe, he cites the vocals of Ray Charles and amplified harmonica of Little Walter as his biggest influences.
